The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gwyn Boyes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ed Helks in the 6th minute of play. In the 7th minute Ruben Higginson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gwyn Boyes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 8 minutes into the match, Great Yarmouth's goal looked a bit too open when Will Starr came free, but Gwyn Boyes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Feliciano Stephen kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Great Yarmouth's Freddy Vine got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 13th minute, Ivan Busby hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ed Helks in the 16th minute of play forced Great Yarmouth's goalkeeper Gwyn Boyes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gwyn Boyes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ed Helks in the 19th minute of play. With a little luck, Ashley Down Athletic's Roberto Estevon got control of the ball when Freddy Vine tried to sneak it across the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Ed Helks had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gwyn Boyes. After 38 minutes Great Yarmouth's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ruben Higginson who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to Ashley Down Athletic getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Will Starr hit a great ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Matthew Macken made a kick off. Ashley Down Athletic's Roberto Estevon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Freddy Vine in the 55th minute of play. In the 55th minute, Freddy Vine made a precise shot to the right of Roberto Estevon. Ashley Down Athletic's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-2. The supporters of Great Yarmouth booed when Ashley Down Athletic was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthew Macken didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 95 minutes, Will Starr mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ashley Down Athletic and the Great Yarmouth players grew even worse after the yellow card.
