With a little luck, Braintree's Yahia Morceli got control of the ball when Adal Cohen tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rugeley's supporters rose to their feet, but Amdegh Rahouli was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Yahia Morceli breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Rugeley's zone, Wellen Zahouania stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Akram Allalou came out of the goal and Wellen Zahouania tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amdegh Rahouli in the 20th minute of play forced Braintree's goalkeeper Yahia Morceli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zidan Derrida's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Yahia Morceli read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. Akram Allalou took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wellen Zahouania, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Braintree fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After having played for 33 minutes, Lounès Kelkal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rugeley's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lounès Kelkal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 47th minute, Lounès Kelkal got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Wellen Zahouania made a kick off. Sid Ali Saâdani hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Yahia Morceli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adal Cohen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lounès Kelkal blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Yahia Morceli having to make a save. Zidan Derrida fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yahia Morceli having to interfere. Adal Cohen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Yahia Morceli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Yahia Morceli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adal Cohen in the 79th minute of play. After having played for 82 minutes, Adal Cohen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rugeley's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adal Cohen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Rugeley lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
