The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Erol Anžlovar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matey Potočin in the 14th minute of the match. In the 16th minute, Matey Potočin left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Selnica ob Dravi ND fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 19 minutes into the match, Matey Potočin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Erol Anžlovar. FC Ciba's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Matey Potočin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in Selnica ob Dravi ND's zone, Žolt Hadžić stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Borivoj Lajevec came out of the goal and Žolt Hadžić tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Selnica ob Dravi ND getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Matey Potočin hit a great ball. Olivij Koletič fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Borivoj Lajevec having to interfere. Žolt Hadžić fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Borivoj Lajevec having to interfere. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Žolt Hadžić was the one to do the kick off. When Aldo Kampjut came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Selnica ob Dravi ND fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aldo Kampjut couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Žolt Hadžić in the 79th minute of play forced Selnica ob Dravi ND's goalkeeper Borivoj Lajevec to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Žolt Hadžić's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Borivoj Lajevec was relentless in the 80th minute of the game.
