After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Just Planovšek managed to get in a good position for a shot. Novo mesto's supporters rose to their feet, but Just Planovšek was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Meti Šimnovec breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 23 minutes into the game, Jovo Suhadolc was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Kuzma's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Novo mesto the free kick. After a defensive mix-up in Kuzma's zone, Just Planovšek stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Meti Šimnovec came out of the goal and Just Planovšek tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Milovan Ivič showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Črtomir Kadič, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After a rather tough play, Kuzma's Felix Podvršnik got a free kick in the 55th minute. Nicholas Povšič struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Meti Šimnovec didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Novo mesto. Aldian Parkelj hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Meti Šimnovec stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Just Planovšek's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. In the 68th minute Just Planovšek shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Meti Šimnovec saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Just Planovšek received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Meti Šimnovec tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Just Planovšek sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Just Planovšek had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
