In the 9th minute, Ormož NK's Dominik Uranc dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. Helmut Jakšić showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Stane Ljubec in the 14th minute of the match. After 17 played minutes Ormož NK got a freekick which was hit by Jano Krajšek. After a defensive mix-up in Ormož NK's zone, Stane Ljubec stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Helmut Jakšić came out of the goal and Stane Ljubec tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Helmut Hegler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Helmut Jakšić tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 24 played minutes Ormož NK got a freekick which was hit by Job Gabrijel. 25 minutes into the match, Zagorje ob Savi's Antonio Gavez broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Dominik Uranc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adam Skok having to interfere. After 35 played minutes, Zagorje ob Savi's Roman Pengal shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Helmut Jakšić came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Zagorje ob Savi reached it. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Stane Ljubec managed to get in a good position for a shot. Zagorje ob Savi's supporters rose to their feet, but Stane Ljubec was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Helmut Jakšić breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Helmut Jakšić made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stane Ljubec in the 39th minute of play. In the 42nd minute Helmut Hegler shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Helmut Jakšić saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Stane Ljubec had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Stane Ljubec might have been able to make a better finish in the 47th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Helmut Jakšić. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Stane Ljubec ran back to his position shaking his head. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

If Helmut Hegler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Zagorje ob Savi's zone, Džon Šmalc stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Adam Skok came out of the goal and Džon Šmalc tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Zagorje ob Savi's Adam Skok played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dominik Uranc in the 61st minute of play. After a rather tough play, Zagorje ob Savi's Bruno Uranc got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Džon Šmalc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adam Skok having to interfere. Adam Skok took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Džon Šmalc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 79th minute, Zagorje ob Savi's Helmut Hegler dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. 87 minutes into the game, one of Ormož NK:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Antonio Gavez shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Stane Ljubec sent away a hard shot on goal in the 99th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Zagorje ob Savi supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Zagorje ob Savi would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
