After a defensive mix-up in AC Milan's zone, Sten Haraldsson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gösta Stabbe came out of the goal and Sten Haraldsson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match had gone on for 20 minutes, Sten Haraldsson put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Gösta Stabbe. After a defensive mix-up in AC Milan's zone, Ettore Giorgio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gösta Stabbe came out of the goal and Ettore Giorgio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sten Haraldsson in the 37th minute of play forced AC Milan's goalkeeper Gösta Stabbe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Patric Täman came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Näckrosen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patric Täman couldn't finish the play. Näckrosen's Jon Dalkvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bengt Stenquist in the 41st minute of play. 43 minutes into the match, AC Milan's goal looked a bit too open when Ettore Giorgio came free, but Gösta Stabbe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Edmund Utfal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Näckrosen were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Arne Bruse to strike the kick off in the second half. A collision led to AC Milan getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Bengt Stenquist hit a great ball. The supporters of AC Milan booed when Näckrosen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claes Björklund didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 66thth minute of the game Ettore Giorgio who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but AC Milan's Gösta Stabbe was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Sten Haraldsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Sten Haraldssons short, quick shot in the 75thth minute got Gösta Stabbe to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After some careless play in the AC Milan defense, Sten Haraldsson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gösta Stabbe. The AC Milan fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gösta Stabbe should have stopped the shot. Patric Täman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Gösta Stabbe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. AC Milan's Gösta Stabbe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ettore Giorgio in the 86th minute of play. An unexpected shot in the 90th minute by Sten Haraldsson got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Gösta Stabbe took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ettore Giorgio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Patric Täman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Sten Haraldsson came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Näckrosen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sten Haraldsson couldn't finish the play. When the match was over Näckrosen could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than AC Milan throughout the match.
