The supporters of Vårgårda booed when Slakhtar Donetsk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anders Aspengren didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 4 minutes, Börje Larsfelt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vårgårda's supporters crossed their fingers, but Börje Larsfelt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Mikael Täman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Karl-Erik Fors in the 5th minute of the match. Vårgårda's Mikael Täman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karl-Erik Fors in the 6th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Vårgårda's Börje Larsfelt got a free kick in the 11th minute. Vårgårda's attentive Victor Bergren managed to snatch the ball when Anders Aspengren made a throw-in in the 13th minute of the game. Slakhtar Donetsk's Guga Mandrak played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roger Eliasson in the 16th minute of play. In the 17th match minute, Slakhtar Donetsk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gustav Samuelsson to maneuver through the defense. Guga Mandrak made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ove Valrot in the 20th minute. 20 minutes into the match, Börje Larsfelt dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Guga Mandrak, 1-0. Mikael Täman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Karl-Erik Fors in the 24th minute of play. Karl-Erik Fors fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mikael Täman having to interfere. Guga Mandrak made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Ove Valrot sent off a good shot on target. In the 28th minute, Ove Valrot ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Guga Mandrak was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. After some careless play in the Vårgårda defense, Karl-Erik Fors kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mikael Täman. The Vårgårda fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mikael Täman should have stopped the shot. 40 minutes into the match, Börje Larsfelt dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Guga Mandrak, 3-1. Guga Mandrak showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Börje Larsfelt in the 48th minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Börje Larsfelt was the one to do the kick off. Jens-Ola Valrot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 55th minute Börje Larsfelt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guga Mandrak saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roger Eliasson in the 57th minute of play forced Slakhtar Donetsk's goalkeeper Guga Mandrak to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 62 minutes, Karl-Erik Fors managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Guga Mandrak made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roger Eliasson in the 70th minute of play. 72 minutes into the game, Vårgårda's Börje Larsfelt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Guga Mandrak made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-1. 76 minutes into the match, Vårgårda's goal looked a bit too open when Karl-Erik Fors came free, but Mikael Täman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Victor Bergren in the 79th minute of play forced Slakhtar Donetsk's goalkeeper Guga Mandrak to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ove Valrot scored 6-1 in the 83rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Guga Mandrak, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Guga Mandrak didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ove Valrot went, in the 87th minute, to the upper right corner, 7-1 was the resulting score. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Jens-Ola Valrot managed to get in a good position for a shot. Slakhtar Donetsk's supporters rose to their feet, but Jens-Ola Valrot was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mikael Täman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
