AIK were awarded a corner in the 7th minute after FC Skogaholm's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Roy Söderqwist took the corner. AIK's Roy Söderqwist was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Antoine Stercks in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Knut Haraldsson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 9th minute of the match, but Mårten Hellbom made a huge save. In the 12th match minute, AIK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by John Häll to maneuver through the defense. When the match clock showed 13 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Elof Sundström sped through AIK's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Mårten Hellbom. AIK's Mårten Hellbom played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stig-Arne Vik in the 17th minute of play. Antoine Stercks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Åke Öman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. AIK's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Skogaholm the free kick. In the 46th minute, Stig-Arne Vik fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Mårten Hellbom, passed just outside the right post. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Antoine Stercks didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AIK. After a rather tough play, FC Skogaholm's Knut Haraldsson got a free kick in the 80th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Åke Öman managed to get in a good position for a shot. AIK's supporters rose to their feet, but Åke Öman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Antoine Stercks breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Jan Mellin fell near the penalty area in the 81st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Skogaholm's protests and gave Jan Mellin a yellow card for diving instead. After 81 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for FC Skogaholm! Antoine Stercks had in the 83rdth minute some difficulties stopping Roy Söderqwist's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. If Sven-Ove Holm had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 89th minute Stig-Arne Vik shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mårten Hellbom saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Walter Jonsson's late challenge caught a FC Skogaholm's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jan Mellin couldn't finish the play. Sten Alin charged in rather forcefully in the 97th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sten Alin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 97 played minutes AIK got a freekick which was hit by Sten Alin. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
