The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Stig-Åke Magnusson fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Linderöd IK's protests and gave Stig-Åke Magnusson a yellow card for diving instead. In the 3rd minute, one of Linderöd IK:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Linderöd IK. Linderöd IK:s Ronny Wall showed great skill when he stopped Stig-Åke Lägdin:s penalty. Kurt Björklund made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rolf Wallmark in the 10th minute. Gert Ekgren received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Kurt Björklund tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Askersund IK's Kurt Björklund proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Askersund IK from getting a goal against them. Askersund IK's Sven-Åke Strömqvist got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 31st match minute, Linderöd IK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Allan Lindström to maneuver through the defense. Linderöd IK's Ronny Wall played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nils-Åke Ståhlman in the 47th minute of play. The Linderöd IK players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Askersund IK were winning 0-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sven-Åke Strömqvist was the one to do the kick off. An unexpected shot in the 60th minute by Sven-Åke Strömqvist got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Ronny Wall stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sven-Åke Strömqvist's shot from short distance in the 64th minute. Sven-Åke Strömqvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronny Wall having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nils-Åke Ståhlman got free with Ronny Wall in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rolf Wallmark sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 77th match minute, Askersund IK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nils-Erik Wikander to maneuver through the defense. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Askersund IK would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
