A collision led to Hartlepool getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Per-Oskar Kilberg hit a great ball. Ralf Rask received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Wlodzimierz Cipinski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hartlepool's Åke Stål proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Hartlepool from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Emilio Jakue got free with Åke Stål in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 22nd minute, GAIS's Rudolf Nordstedt dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. In the 27th minute of the match GAIS got a corner. Hartlepool's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Xamo Navarro ran over to the corner to take the kick. Xamo Navarro made a great header on GAIS's corner, it was just that Hartlepool's Åke Stål managed to reach the ball for a save. Åke Stål took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Deng Le Jian, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. GAIS's Wlodzimierz Cipinski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Charlie Jansson in the 30th minute of play. The supporters of GAIS booed when Hartlepool was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hasan Hüseyin Orak didn't get a good kick on the ball. Åke Stål showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rudolf Nordstedt in the 40th minute of the match. Åke Stål was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Edvard Björling showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 46 minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Charlie Jansson was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Hartlepool's goal looked a bit too open when Emilio Jakue came free, but Åke Stål reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 56 minutes into the match, Hartlepool's goal looked a bit too open when Rudolf Nordstedt came free, but Åke Stål reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ralf Rask was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Bosse Blond lost his temper 72 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 72 minutes into the game, one of Hartlepool:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Åke Stål took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rudolf Nordstedt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hartlepool's Ralf Rask got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Isaac Göransson in the 83rd minute of play forced Hartlepool's goalkeeper Åke Stål to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hartlepool's Åke Stål played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rudolf Nordstedt in the 92nd minute of play. In the 97th minute Rudolf Nordstedt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Åke Stål saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. For all the effort they put into the match, the Hartlepool players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for GAIS.
