The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute, Feliks Dankowski fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Jerzy Kluska, passed just outside the right post. Edward Munko sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Leszek Pruss fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Lech Poznań's protests and gave Leszek Pruss a yellow card for diving instead. Leszek Pruss hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. In the 13th minute, Edward Munko left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Górnika Koniin fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Dominik Mindykowski showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edward Munko, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. In the 18th minute, Igor Pryla got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bernard Blicharz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jerzy Kluska read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. After 21 minutes, Olgierd Mnich mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Górnika Koniin and the FC Lech Poznań players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 21 played minutes Górnika Koniin got a freekick which was hit by Olgierd Mnich. Edward Munko took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dominik Mindykowski. Dominik Mindykowski dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. If Edward Munko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gilbert Lisewski sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Górnika Koniin's Jerzy Kluska proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save Górnika Koniin from getting a goal against them. After 36 minutes, Zdzislaw Dembowski mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Górnika Koniin and the FC Lech Poznań players grew even worse after the yellow card. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Leszek Pruss was shown his second yellow card after 52 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 52nd match minute, FC Lech Poznań was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leszek Pruss to maneuver through the defense. In the 56th minute Igor Pryla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dominik Mindykowski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dominik Mindykowski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Olgierd Mnich in the 59th minute of the match. Górnika Koniin's Zdzislaw Dembowski got his second yellow card of the match in the 63rd minute. The referee ordered Zdzislaw Dembowski off the ground. Jerzy Kluska went to the wrong direction when Roland Sroki was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. With a little luck, FC Lech Poznań's Dominik Mindykowski got control of the ball when Edward Munko tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Edward Munko came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Górnika Koniin fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edward Munko couldn't finish the play. After 78 played minutes FC Lech Poznań got a freekick which was hit by Feliks Dankowski. Edward Munko struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Dominik Mindykowski didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Górnika Koniin. The supporters of Górnika Koniin booed when FC Lech Poznań was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilbert Lisewski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edward Munko sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gilbert Lisewski hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Feliks Dankowski charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Feliks Dankowski the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Górnika Koniin's Wlodzimierz Laba shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 90th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Dominik Mindykowski but with some difficulty. Górnika Koniin's Edward Munko got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
