Kjetil Simonsen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kenneth Ulland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arnt Waage during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Arnt Waage hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Kenneth Ulland ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 28 minutes, Jøran Bjerkli mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the STEINKJER FOTBALL KLUBB and the Grimstad FF players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 28 played minutes STEINKJER FOTBALL KLUBB got a freekick which was hit by Jøran Bjerkli. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jack Kvamsdal in the 44th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg David Stokland saved STEINKJER FOTBALL KLUBB from getting behind. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Kenneth Ulland came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the STEINKJER FOTBALL KLUBB fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kenneth Ulland couldn't finish the play. 58 minutes into the match, Grimstad FF's goal looked a bit too open when Jøran Bjerkli came free, but Kjetil Simonsen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Kjetil Simonsen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kenneth Ulland in the 62nd minute of the match. 63 minutes into the game, Jøran Bjerkli cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-1. Kjetil Simonsen was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
