After 4 minutes of play, Marienborg's Kent Holme made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sturle Røhne was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Æri BK's Peter Starheim got a free kick in the 7th minute. Kent Holme sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 12th match minute, Æri BK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kent Olsrud to maneuver through the defense. Bjarne Moholt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Bjarne Moholt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fredrik Kvaal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Tor Dyrdal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With his leg Sturle Røhne managed to avoid a goal in the 32ndth minute, when Marienborg's Andreas Bergh fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Kent Holme in the 35thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Sturle Røhne, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Kent Holme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Sturle Røhne made a fantastic save in the 38th minute, when Kent Holme sent off a good shot on target. Æri BK's Sturle Røhne played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andreas Bergh in the 39th minute of play. Fredrik Kvaal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tor Dyrdal having to interfere. In the 44th minute the ball was on its way in behind Æri BK's goalkeeper Sturle Røhne, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sturle Røhne took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Andreas Bergh, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fredrik Kvaal to make the kick off. 54 minutes into the game, one of Marienborg:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Morten Mehus walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Peter Starheim during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Bjarne Moholt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Andreas Bergh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Bjarne Moholt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Æri BK's Sturle Røhne played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andreas Bergh in the 70th minute of play. In the 73rd minute, Daniel Kalvik hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Æri BK's zone, Kent Holme stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sturle Røhne came out of the goal and Kent Holme tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bjarne Moholt blasted a shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tor Dyrdal having to make a save. After having played for 82 minutes, Andreas Bergh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Marienborg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andreas Bergh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bjarne Moholt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Marienborg's Atle Holden got a free kick in the 90th minute. Æri BK's Fredrik Kvaal got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In a very dangerous position, a player in Æri BK fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 96th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Marienborg a penalty, 98 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Balder Melhus, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Æri BK's Sturle Røhne. 3-0. Æri BK's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
