Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) The supporters of Assel Excelsior booed when Terhorne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Antoon Bleiswijk didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gertjan Genkenaar might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jouke Assendelft. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gertjan Genkenaar ran back to his position shaking his head. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jan Teuben in the 21st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jouke Assendelft saved Terhorne from getting behind. Jouke Assendelft took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gertjan Genkenaar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 24th minute Gertjan Genkenaar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jouke Assendelft saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Gertjan Genkenaar came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Assel Excelsior fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gertjan Genkenaar couldn't finish the play. Alwin Haas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Arnout Hellemons tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 38 minutes, Jan Teuben managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Assel Excelsior's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jan Teuben was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 45 minutes, Anton Oosterbaan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Terhorne and the Assel Excelsior players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Terhorne getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Anton Oosterbaan hit a great ball. Gertjan Genkenaar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jouke Assendelft having to interfere. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jan Teuben made a kick off. Arnout Hellemons showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alwin Haas in the 53rd minute of the match. Alwin Haas struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Arnout Hellemons didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Terhorne. Otto Niemeyer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 63 minutes into the match, Terhorne's goal looked a bit too open when Jan Teuben came free, but Jouke Assendelft reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gertjan Genkenaar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Gertjan Genkenaar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 69th minute of the match, but Jouke Assendelft made a huge save. In the 74th minute, Gertjan Genkenaar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 91st minute, Jan Teuben hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 93rd match minute, Assel Excelsior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Philip van Schaik to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Terhorne getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Anton Oosterbaan hit a great ball. The Assel Excelsior supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Assel Excelsior would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
