After 4 played minutes, Overwoud FC's Niels van Kempen shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Marco Cruijff came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Overwoud FC reached it. Jouke Nieuwburg hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. If Ferdi Wilbrink had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Frans de Zaaijer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Overwoud FC's Adriaan Ricksen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurice Kimman in the 12th minute of play. Ferdi Wilbrink sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 18 minutes, Ferdi Wilbrink managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Overwoud FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ferdi Wilbrink was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 22 played minutes Nieuwolda FC got a freekick which was hit by Gijs Daems. Overwoud FC's Adriaan Ricksen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurice Kimman in the 28th minute of play. Nieuwolda FC's Maurice Kimman got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nieuwolda FC's Frans de Zaaijer got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 35 minutes into the game, Maurice Kimman cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Adriaan Ricksen was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The crowd rose to their feet as Overwoud FC's Gregor Schuiling slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Marco Cruijff. That made the score 1-1 after 42 minutes of play. Ferdi Wilbrink blasted a shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marco Cruijff having to make a save.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gregor Schuiling stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Nieuwolda FC defense, Aad van Nieuwstadt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marco Cruijff. The Nieuwolda FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marco Cruijff should have stopped the shot. Ferdi Wilbrink fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marco Cruijff having to interfere. When Bjorn Beerthuis fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Overwoud FC's protests and gave Bjorn Beerthuis a yellow card for diving instead. In the 62nd minute, Bjorn Beerthuis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rick Scheffer was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 63rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Marco Cruijff showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gregor Schuiling in the 69th minute of the match. Frans de Zaaijer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Nieuwolda FC's Henny Hebert got a free kick in the 74th minute. Wesley Keupink's late challenge caught a Overwoud FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wesley Keupink helped the player get up and apologised. In the 77th minute, one of Nieuwolda FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Nieuwolda FC. Ferdi Wilbrink struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Marco Cruijff didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Overwoud FC. Frans de Zaaijer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
