Richard Pieters tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Delfzijl HC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Heiko van der Leegte hit a great ball. In the 26th minute Ferdi Wilbrink shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Pieters saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 40 played minutes Overwoud FC got a freekick which was hit by Aad van Nieuwstadt. 41 minutes into the match, Overwoud FC's goalkeeper Adriaan Ricksen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Donald Bakhuis. Gregor Schuiling's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Richard Pieters read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. Adriaan Ricksen made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Donald Bakhuis sent off a good shot on target.

The wind increased when Matthijs Eringa made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Ferdi Wilbrink ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Richard Pieters was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Adriaan Ricksen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matthijs Eringa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Bjorn Beerthuis was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 57 minutes had been played. The supporters of Delfzijl HC booed when Overwoud FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bjorn Beerthuis didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Delfzijl HC's zone, Ferdi Wilbrink stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Richard Pieters came out of the goal and Ferdi Wilbrink tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Donald Bakhuis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Hans Heide tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Adriaan Ricksen. An unnecessary self made goal, 1-2 in the 86th minute. The Delfzijl HC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Overwoud FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Overwoud FC.
