Fred van Rooijen took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 3rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Klaas Jan Kleinman. Gellicum's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Joop Severijnse took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dave van Heiningen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Mirns FC booed when Gellicum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dave van Heiningen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Klaas Jan Kleinman didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Mirns FC's Ton Kluivert shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-0 in the ordered_time% minute. 21 minutes into the game, Jeffrey Kauffeld was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gellicum's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mirns FC the free kick. After recieving a nice pass, Mirns FC's Frits Meulenbergh tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dave van Heiningen in the 27th minute of play forced Mirns FC's goalkeeper Joop Severijnse to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Guus Klap sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Pieter-Jan Plaggenborg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Klaas Jan Kleinman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ton Kluivert in the 36th minute of the match. Joop Severijnse made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guus Klap in the 37th minute of play. If Guus Klap had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dave van Heiningen scored 1-1 in the 40th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Joop Severijnse, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Guus Klap might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joop Severijnse. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Guus Klap ran back to his position shaking his head. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ton Kluivert made a kick off. If Ton Kluivert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 54 minutes into the match, Pieter-Jan Plaggenborg had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Klaas Jan Kleinman. Gellicum's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Pieter-Jan Plaggenborg was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Klaas Jan Kleinman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pieter-Jan Plaggenborg in the 60th minute of play. Dave van Heiningen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Joop Severijnse tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 66th minute, Guus Klap got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 70 minutes, Jan Keller mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gellicum and the Mirns FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Gellicum's Jan Keller got a free kick in the 71st minute. In the 74th minute Dave van Heiningen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joop Severijnse saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mirns FC's Joop Severijnse played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dave van Heiningen in the 79th minute of play. Klaas Jan Kleinman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ton Kluivert, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. If Dave van Heiningen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Many of Gellicum's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Gellicum may have spent more time on the ball, but Mirns FC were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
