The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gert Jan Caluwé in the 5th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eric Boerma saved Atzeburen HC from getting behind. If Gert Jan Caluwé had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Eric Boerma showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Otto van Zomeren in the 8th minute of the match. Eric Boerma took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Otto van Zomeren, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 13 minutes, Ruben Daalmeyer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atzeburen HC and the Maliskamp FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Atzeburen HC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Ruben Daalmeyer hit a great ball. 17 minutes into the match, Gert Jan Caluwé had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eric Boerma. Atzeburen HC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gert Jan Caluwé was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. With splendid footwork Koos Fokkens arrived in front of goal to shoot 1-1 by the left pole in the game's 20th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Otto van Zomeren in the 26th minute of play forced Atzeburen HC's goalkeeper Eric Boerma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Maliskamp FC's Laurens Pik played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Koos Fokkens in the 28th minute of play. After 29 minutes of play, Atzeburen HC's Koos Fokkens made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Laurens Pik was left in no man's land by his defense there! 34 minutes into the game, Jeroen Waidijk was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Atzeburen HC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Maliskamp FC the free kick. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Otto van Zomeren managed to get in a good position for a shot. Maliskamp FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Otto van Zomeren was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eric Boerma breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Oscar Kikkert fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Laurens Pik having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Koos Fokkens's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Laurens Pik was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. Jeroen Waidijk hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. In the 47th minute, Thijs Ravenbergen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

58 minutes into the match, Atzeburen HC's goal looked a bit too open when Otto van Zomeren came free, but Eric Boerma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Atzeburen HC's zone, Otto van Zomeren stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eric Boerma came out of the goal and Otto van Zomeren tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gert Jan Caluwé fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Boerma having to interfere. Jeroen Waidijk got his second yellow card in the match during the 66th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Jeroen Waidijk hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. If Otto van Zomeren had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eric Boerma made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Gert Jan Caluwé sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Damien Ekelhoff during the 77th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Eric Boerma made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gert Jan Caluwé in the 80th minute. The supporters of Atzeburen HC booed when Maliskamp FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oscar Roeters didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oscar Kikkert in the 87th minute of play forced Maliskamp FC's goalkeeper Laurens Pik to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gert Jan Caluwé fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric Boerma having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Otto van Zomeren in the 91st minute of play forced Atzeburen HC's goalkeeper Eric Boerma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 97 minutes, Eric Boerma successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Atzeburen HC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Maliskamp FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
