Benschop HC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mechelen the free kick. Cobus Geraets made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Klaas Jan Meijer in the 16th minute of play. Nathan Bemmel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Cobus Geraets tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Klaas Jan Meijer's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cobus Geraets was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. After having played for 26 minutes, Carel Ter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benschop HC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carel Ter was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cobus Geraets stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nathan Bemmel's shot from short distance in the 37th minute. Benschop HC's Cobus Geraets played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nathan Bemmel in the 42nd minute of play. 49 minutes into the match, Benschop HC's Carel Ter sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rinus Kleine narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Klaas Jan Meijer was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Benschop HC's zone, Nathan Bemmel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cobus Geraets came out of the goal and Nathan Bemmel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cobus Geraets took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Klaas Jan Meijer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 66 minutes into the match, Mechelen's goal looked a bit too open when Carel Ter came free, but Rinus Kleine reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 66th match minute, Mechelen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jan Rein Borgman to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Carel Ter in the 69th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rinus Kleine saved Mechelen from getting behind. 74 minutes into the match, Jan Moes notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Mechelen's Rinus Kleine. Rinus Kleine was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Carel Ter struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Rinus Kleine didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Benschop HC. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Jan Moes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Benschop HC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jan Moes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rinus Kleine breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nathan Bemmel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Mechelen's zone, Jan Moes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rinus Kleine came out of the goal and Jan Moes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jan Moes blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rinus Kleine having to make a save. Carel Ter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rinus Kleine having to interfere. Klaas Jan Meijer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cobus Geraets having to interfere.
