After 3 played minutes Rood Geel got a freekick which was hit by Robbie Pinksteren. After 4 minutes of play, IJsseloord's Frederik Zoolingen made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Toni van Rijswijk was left in no man's land by his defense there! Robin de Ridder who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 11thth minute tested the skills of Sjors Roewen when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Jef Kleiker hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Stefan Brinks's late challenge caught a Rood Geel's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Stefan Brinks helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Rood Geel booed when IJsseloord was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stefan Brinks didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rood Geel's Wim Spaan shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 35th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Sjors Roewen but with some difficulty. In the 40th minute, Ricky Teesing got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Frederik Zoolingen in the 52nd minute of play forced Rood Geel's goalkeeper Toni van Rijswijk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 55th minute, Ernst Ravenbergen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jochem Moermans received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Sjors Roewen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 64th minute, Frits Hofkamp hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rood Geel's Toni van Rijswijk proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 68th minute of the match, managed to save Rood Geel from getting a goal against them. A collision led to Rood Geel getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Frits Hofkamp hit a great ball. Frederik Zoolingen struck a weak shot in the 75th minute. Toni van Rijswijk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for IJsseloord. In the 76th match minute, Rood Geel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Frits Hofkamp to maneuver through the defense. In the 82nd minute, Ricky Teesing got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Toni van Rijswijk was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Frederik Zoolingen showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 84 minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Robbie Pinksteren during the 88th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 87 minutes into the game, one of Rood Geel:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty.
