In the 16th match minute, Zijdewind Excelsior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rudi Knol to maneuver through the defense. Arie Dijken sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 33rdth minute of the game Dennis van der Laan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Zijdewind Excelsior's Gertjan Dekkers was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nigel Geerts got free with Peter Valk in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Peter Valk showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nigel Geerts, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Dennis van der Laan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 47 minutes into the match, Ovezande HC's Dennis van der Laan sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gertjan Dekkers narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Peter Valk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nigel Geerts in the 69th minute of play. In the 74th minute Dennis van der Laan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gertjan Dekkers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Ovezande HC's Christijan van Zaanen got a free kick in the 75th minute. After some careless play in the Ovezande HC defense, Nigel Geerts kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Peter Valk. The Ovezande HC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Peter Valk should have stopped the shot. If Dennis van der Laan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Taco Schuurman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute, Arie Dijken got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Zijdewind Excelsior succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ovezande HC had controlled the match.
