Spectators: 34 (Terracing: 26, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Elco Hoffhuis started the match with the kick off. Huib Timmerman might have been able to make a better finish in the 3rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Martin van Zeist. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Huib Timmerman ran back to his position shaking his head. Martin van Zeist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rien Schuurmans in the 6th minute of the match. The supporters of Zutphen FC booed when Dodewaard SV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gido Tamminga didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elco Hoffhuis in the 19th minute of play forced Zutphen FC's goalkeeper Hub Zwaanswijk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 20 minutes into the game, Jurjen Kooij was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Zutphen FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Dodewaard SV the free kick. In the 20th match minute, Zutphen FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jurjen Kooij to maneuver through the defense. If Elco Hoffhuis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gido Tamminga hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Huib Timmerman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Martin van Zeist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Zutphen FC's zone, Gido Meijering stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hub Zwaanswijk came out of the goal and Gido Meijering tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 45th minute, Bennie de Haan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Elco Hoffhuis struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Hub Zwaanswijk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dodewaard SV. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Hub Zwaanswijk showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gido Meijering, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Paul Spanjer's late challenge caught a Dodewaard SV's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Paul Spanjer helped the player get up and apologised. After 57 minutes, Huib Timmerman mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Zutphen FC and the Dodewaard SV players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Zutphen FC's Huib Timmerman got a free kick in the 57th minute. If Rien Schuurmans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 63 minutes into the match, Dodewaard SV's goalkeeper Martin van Zeist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Huib Timmerman. Elco Hoffhuis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind Zutphen FC's goalkeeper Hub Zwaanswijk, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 91 minutes into the match, Dodewaard SV's goalkeeper Martin van Zeist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Huib Timmerman. If Elco Hoffhuis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
