Spectators: 34 (Terracing: 26, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Henk de Jong made the kick off and thus started the match. Coos Bakhuis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 3rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 5th minute the ball was on its way in behind VVV VENLO's goalkeeper Joffrey Lardon, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 6th minute, Coos Bakhuis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Harald van Asten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joffrey Lardon having to interfere. When Henk van Zwieten fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Drimmelen HC's protests and gave Henk van Zwieten a yellow card for diving instead. In the 13th minute, Henk van Zwieten hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harald van Asten in the 16th minute of play forced VVV VENLO's goalkeeper Joffrey Lardon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Coos Bakhuis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Joffrey Lardon having to make a save. Joffrey Lardon made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Jan van der Haar sent off a good shot on target. Yuri Vorenkamp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Karel Korf tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Henk de Jong's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Karel Korf read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. After 33 played minutes VVV VENLO got a freekick which was hit by Kees van Damme. If Harald van Asten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joffrey Lardon stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Harald van Asten's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Joffrey Lardon made an important save on a dangerous shot by Coos Bakhuis in the 42nd minute. Coos Bakhuis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Henk de Jong during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Harald van Asten to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harald van Asten in the 55th minute of play forced VVV VENLO's goalkeeper Joffrey Lardon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 58th minute Harald van Asten shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joffrey Lardon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jan van der Haar charged in rather forcefully in the 66th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jan van der Haar the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of VVV VENLO booed when Drimmelen HC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jan van der Haar didn't get a good kick on the ball. Karel Korf made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Lennart Hermansson sent off a good shot on target. Henk de Jong received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Karel Korf tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Karel Korf came out of the goal in the 72nd minute to try and stop a shot by VVV VENLO's Lennart Hermansson. But to his dismay, Lennart Hermansson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The audience was convinced that Harald van Asten's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joffrey Lardon was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. After having played for 79 minutes, Henk de Jong managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VVV VENLO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Henk de Jong was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Yuri Vorenkamp recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Yuri Vorenkamp's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Karel Korf read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. Henk de Jong was shown his second yellow card after 91 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 92nd minute, Henk de Jong hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jan Schie took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 94th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Joffrey Lardon. VVV VENLO's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The Drimmelen HC manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing VVV VENLO to win.
