The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 9th minute, Heidhuizen's Fabiën Veltman dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Ferdi Daniels blasted a shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ronald Overmars having to make a save. The supporters of Vaarsel booed when Heidhuizen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabiën Veltman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ronald Overmars stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jonathan de Nooijer's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Matthijs Vroom charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Matthijs Vroom the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Heidhuizen's Matthijs Vroom got a free kick in the 20th minute. Matthijs Vroom received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Mart de Lange tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ferdi Daniels fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronald Overmars having to interfere. If Ferdi Daniels had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 34 minutes into the match, Heidhuizen's goal looked a bit too open when Jonathan de Nooijer came free, but Ronald Overmars reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabiën Veltman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mart de Lange having to interfere. Fabiën Veltman hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Ronald Overmars made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ferdi Daniels in the 41st minute of play. In the 46th minute Jonathan de Nooijer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronald Overmars saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ferdi Daniels's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ronald Overmars read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 50th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matthijs Vroom to make the kick off. Ronald Overmars showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jonathan de Nooijer, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. Ferdi Daniels received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Ronald Overmars tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jonathan de Nooijer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
