The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Klaus Evers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nigel Dijken having to interfere. Steenbergen's Nigel Dijken proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 8th minute of the match, managed to save Steenbergen from getting a goal against them. In the 10th minute David Tinselboer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nigel Dijken saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 12 minutes of play, Wachtum FC's Klaus Evers made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. If Arjan van der Linden had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Herbert Langenbach to make the kick off. A collision led to Steenbergen getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Niek Hermensen hit a great ball. Wachtum FC were awarded a corner in the 56th minute after Steenbergen's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Teun Baars took the corner. Klaus Evers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Nigel Dijken tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 70th minute, Klaus Evers got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Ate Roewen fell near the penalty area in the 74th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wachtum FC's protests and gave Ate Roewen a yellow card for diving instead. 74 minutes into the game, one of Wachtum FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. David Tinselboer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 84 minutes into the match, Klaus Evers notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Steenbergen's Nigel Dijken. Nigel Dijken was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some careless play in the Steenbergen defense, Klaus Evers kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nigel Dijken. The Steenbergen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nigel Dijken should have stopped the shot. When David Tinselboer came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Wachtum FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that David Tinselboer couldn't finish the play. 96 minutes into the match, Wachtum FC's Teun Baars broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Wachtum FC's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
