The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sevenum's Klaas Jan Brouwers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jurjen Dijken in the 12th minute of play. Dirk Jan Traa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lukas Siemers in the 17th minute of the match. Wessel Teesing's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dirk Jan Traa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. The supporters of Ermerveen Excelsior booed when Sevenum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gert Zijlstra didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Sevenum's Lukas Siemers in the 35th minute got a chance for a shot 35th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After some careless play in the Sevenum defense, Rogier Ihselmann kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Klaas Jan Brouwers. The Sevenum fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Klaas Jan Brouwers should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jurjen Dijken stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Wessel Teesing could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Dirk Jan Traa made a huge save. In the 56th minute Rogier Ihselmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Klaas Jan Brouwers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lukas Siemers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dirk Jan Traa having to interfere. Lukas Siemers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Dirk Jan Traa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 68th match minute, Sevenum was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bruno de Zwart to maneuver through the defense. Taco Roelofsen blasted a shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Klaas Jan Brouwers having to make a save. Dries Janssens's late challenge caught a Sevenum's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dries Janssens helped the player get up and apologised. Dries Janssens hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Lukas Siemers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dirk Jan Traa having to interfere. Frans Pinksteren's late challenge caught a Sevenum's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Frans Pinksteren helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Ermerveen Excelsior getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Frans Pinksteren hit a great ball. 78 minutes into the game, Ermerveen Excelsior's Rogier Ihselmann nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Klaas Jan Brouwers made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. An unexpected shot in the 84th minute by Lukas Siemers got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Klaas Jan Brouwers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rogier Ihselmann in the 88th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Sevenum's zone, Jurjen Dijken stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Klaas Jan Brouwers came out of the goal and Jurjen Dijken tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 94 minutes, Jurjen Dijken managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ermerveen Excelsior's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jurjen Dijken was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sevenum's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
