The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 6th minute Cobus Sloedingen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ernst Hegeman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 8 played minutes Kickers United got a freekick which was hit by Fred Kauffeld. Ted Eefting fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ernst Hegeman having to interfere. Ernst Hegeman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cobus Sloedingen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Fred Kauffeld came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Kickers United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fred Kauffeld couldn't finish the play. Sebastiaan Wielens charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sebastiaan Wielens the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to FC Mokerslag getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Sebastiaan Wielens hit a great ball. Ricky Weggemans blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Henk Derksen having to make a save. When Henk Kuypers fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kickers United's protests and gave Henk Kuypers a yellow card for diving instead. In the 47th minute, Henk Kuypers hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Ernst Hegeman didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cobus Sloedingen went, in the 54th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. When Ted Eefting fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Mokerslag's protests and gave Ted Eefting a yellow card for diving instead. After 58 played minutes FC Mokerslag got a freekick which was hit by Ted Eefting. In the 71st minute of the match, Cobus Sloedingen tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Ernst Hegeman saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Kickers United's Ernst Hegeman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cobus Sloedingen in the 74th minute of play. Henk Kuypers might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Henk Derksen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Henk Derksen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Henk Kuypers, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. In the 95th match minute, FC Mokerslag was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Otto van der Linden to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Fred Kauffeld managed to get in a good position for a shot.
