In the 7th match minute, Union Sporting V08 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jelle de Zwaan to maneuver through the defense. Arno Dilling who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 12thth minute tested the skills of Jacco Zondervan when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Arno Dilling sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Arno Dilling came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Pesaken Excelsior fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Arno Dilling couldn't finish the play. Stephan Molnar's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacco Zondervan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. Arno Dilling sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Remco Ronde, 27 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Japke Paas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Jacco Zondervan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stephan Molnar, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. With his leg Jacco Zondervan managed to avoid a goal in the 46thth minute, when Pesaken Excelsior's Arno Dilling fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arno Dilling got free with Jacco Zondervan in the 48th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Stephan Molnar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 56 minutes, Victor van Duuren managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Union Sporting V08's supporters crossed their fingers, but Victor van Duuren was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ronald Scholten made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nico van Zeijl in the 59th minute of play.
