The audience was convinced that Cor Cuperus's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Remco Riemers was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. Remco Riemers breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cor Cuperus in the 33rd minute of play forced real madrid's goalkeeper Remco Riemers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jan Hendrik van Fessum fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Felix Bijl having to interfere. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cor Cuperus stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Remco Riemers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cor Cuperus in the 54th minute of play. Zwammerdam's Maarten Bergman got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 62nd match minute, real madrid was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rien Das to maneuver through the defense. Remco Riemers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cor Cuperus in the 63rd minute of play. Jan Hendrik van Fessum was extremely unlucky when he, in the 71st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Cor Cuperus recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
