Karel Bakker kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in FC Utreg's zone, Fokke Rijkaard stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mathijs Saenen came out of the goal and Fokke Rijkaard tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Henk van Alst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lukas Appeldoorn in the 15th minute of the match. Karel Bakker's late challenge caught a FC Utreg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Karel Bakker helped the player get up and apologised. In the 16th minute, Karel Bakker hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. MVV Maastricht's Henk van Alst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erik Meppelink in the 18th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mark Blank in the 19th minute of play forced MVV Maastricht's goalkeeper Henk van Alst to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Henk van Alst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mark Blank in the 21st minute of the match. After some careless play in the MVV Maastricht defense, Iwan Rooy kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Henk van Alst. The MVV Maastricht fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Henk van Alst should have stopped the shot. After having played for 36 minutes, Fokke Rijkaard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MVV Maastricht's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fokke Rijkaard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Teo Schoenmakers kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. The attack was good, but when Fokke Rijkaard in the 43rd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. After a rather tough play, FC Utreg's Iwan Rooy got a free kick in the 44th minute. Fokke Rijkaard might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mathijs Saenen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Fokke Rijkaard ran back to his position shaking his head. Henk van Alst showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erik Meppelink in the 48th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Erik Meppelink made a kick off. Benjamin Derksen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Mathijs Saenen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Benjamin Derksen came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the MVV Maastricht fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benjamin Derksen couldn't finish the play. Mathijs Saenen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fokke Rijkaard, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. MVV Maastricht's Henk van Alst proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save MVV Maastricht from getting a goal against them. The supporters of FC Utreg booed when MVV Maastricht was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Karel Bakker didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fokke Rijkaard in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mathijs Saenen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Erik Meppelink fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Henk van Alst having to interfere. If Fokke Rijkaard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When MVV Maastricht's Fokke Rijkaard in the 72nd minute got a chance for a shot 72nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Mathijs Saenen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fokke Rijkaard in the 86th minute of play. If Benjamin Derksen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edgar van der Weerden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Mathijs Saenen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 93rd minute, Fokke Rijkaard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. MVV Maastricht were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
