The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Han Schoonbeek showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dennis Veentjer in the 11th minute of the match. If Rien Trip had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Han Schoonbeek took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dennis Veentjer, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 16th minute, Pim Harding hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Wouter Berendt kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Rien Trip blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Han Schoonbeek having to make a save. In the 31st minute, Dennis Veentjer left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Fc Genemuiden fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. If Gerwin Post had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rien Trip might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Han Schoonbeek. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rien Trip ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Moordrecht's zone, Rien Trip stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Han Schoonbeek came out of the goal and Rien Trip tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Roger van Fessum hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. If Rien Trip had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Han Schoonbeek showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gerwin Post, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. When Dennis Veentjer came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Fc Genemuiden fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dennis Veentjer couldn't finish the play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

A collision led to Moordrecht getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Roger van Fessum hit a great ball. After having played for 56 minutes, Jean-Paul Rijkaard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fc Genemuiden's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jean-Paul Rijkaard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 64th match minute, Moordrecht was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roger van Fessum to maneuver through the defense. In the 68th match minute, Fc Genemuiden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ab Carels to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Moordrecht's Han Schoonbeek got control of the ball when Gerwin Post tried to sneak it across the goal line. Roger van Fessum hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. Fc Genemuiden's Gerwin Post got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Theo Hesp kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Sturkenboom in the 79th minute of play forced Fc Genemuiden's goalkeeper Jordi Mik to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 82nd minute, Fc Genemuiden's Dennis Veentjer dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. Rien Trip sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Dennis Veentjer managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fc Genemuiden's supporters rose to their feet, but Dennis Veentjer was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Han Schoonbeek breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Han Schoonbeek made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rien Trip in the 91st minute. When the final whistle sounded Fc Genemuiden left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Moordrecht.
