The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ron Oorschot took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Auke Baars, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Amsteleind getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Fabiën Ottens hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jim Rinzema in the 10th minute of play forced Amsteleind's goalkeeper Ron Oorschot to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Poolland Excelsior booed when Amsteleind was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fabiën Ottens didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 12th minute, Jim Rinzema managed to get in a good position for a shot. Poolland Excelsior's supporters rose to their feet, but Jim Rinzema was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ron Oorschot breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Auke Baars in the 16th minute of play forced Amsteleind's goalkeeper Ron Oorschot to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Auke Baars scored 0-1 in the 18th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ron Oorschot, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jim Rinzema struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Ron Oorschot didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Poolland Excelsior. Kristian Boezem made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Nico-Jan van Nistelrooij sent off a good shot on target. If Auke Baars had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jim Rinzema received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Ron Oorschot tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Amsteleind's zone, Auke Baars stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ron Oorschot came out of the goal and Auke Baars tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Amsteleind's goalkeeper Ron Oorschot, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 38thth minute of the game Auke Baars who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Amsteleind's Ron Oorschot was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Jim Rinzema had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 45 minutes into the match, Poolland Excelsior's Auke Baars sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ron Oorschot narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

The audience was convinced that Nico-Jan van Nistelrooij's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kristian Boezem was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. If Nico-Jan van Nistelrooij had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jim Rinzema in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ron Oorschot prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jim Rinzema in the 69th minute of play forced Amsteleind's goalkeeper Ron Oorschot to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 70 minutes, Jim Rinzema took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Ron Oorschot to make any attempt to save it. 73 minutes into the match, Auke Baars notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Amsteleind's Ron Oorschot. Ron Oorschot was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jim Rinzema fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ron Oorschot having to interfere. Jim Rinzema was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 80th minute. Poolland Excelsior's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. If Auke Baars had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Auke Baars received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Ron Oorschot tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Amsteleind's Ron Oorschot proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 90th minute of the match, managed to save Amsteleind from getting a goal against them. In the 91st minute of the match, Jim Rinzema tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Ron Oorschot saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Poolland Excelsior played a much better game than Amsteleind and deserved their victory. The Amsteleind players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
