Grathem Excelsior's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Veldhoven FC the free kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilfred Klasens in the 22nd minute of play forced Grathem Excelsior's goalkeeper Wim van Harten to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hans-Cees Kremer's late challenge caught a Veldhoven FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Hans-Cees Kremer made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Veldhoven FC getting a freekick after 52 minutes play.
