In the 4th minute Arno Ricksen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans Ginneken saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hans Ginneken took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arno Ricksen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 7th minute Theo Homan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans Ginneken saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, Rheden V.V.'s goal looked a bit too open when Arno Ricksen came free, but Hans Ginneken reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hans Ginneken showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arno Ricksen in the 15th minute of the match. Hans Ginneken didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 16th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. Rheden V.V.'s Jordi Veninga managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Ernst Engbers in the 19 minute of the game. Matthijs Heinen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Gert Strobos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hans Ginneken showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arno Ricksen, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Hans Ginneken made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jan van Schaik in the 30th minute. 31 minutes into the game, Tommie Stolte was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Rheden V.V.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Varsselder HC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Rheden V.V.'s Tommie Stolte got a free kick in the 31st minute. 33 minutes into the match, Rheden V.V.'s goalkeeper Hans Ginneken had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jan van Schaik. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arno Ricksen in the 37th minute of play forced Rheden V.V.'s goalkeeper Hans Ginneken to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gert Roodenburg came free with the goalkeeper in the 39th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Hans Ginneken could save by the left post. 40 minutes into the match, Rheden V.V.'s goal looked a bit too open when Arno Ricksen came free, but Hans Ginneken reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Rheden V.V.'s Hans Ginneken got control of the ball when Jan van Schaik tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some careless play in the Varsselder HC defense, Mark Deijkers kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gert Strobos. The Varsselder HC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gert Strobos should have stopped the shot. Gert Strobos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matthijs Heinen, who was totally free with the ball in the 49th minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matthijs Heinen to make the kick off. After 53 played minutes Varsselder HC got a freekick which was hit by Tommie Harmannus. Matthijs Heinen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jan van Schaik hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. After 66 played minutes, Rheden V.V.'s Jordi Veninga shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Gert Strobos came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Rheden V.V. reached it. Jan van Schaik took the ball and in the 67 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hans Ginneken. Hans Ginneken dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After a defensive mix-up in Rheden V.V.'s zone, Gert Roodenburg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hans Ginneken came out of the goal and Gert Roodenburg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rheden V.V.'s Hans Ginneken played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gert Roodenburg in the 73rd minute of play. In the 74th minute Johan Scholte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans Ginneken saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Rheden V.V. defense, Johan Scholte kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hans Ginneken. The Rheden V.V. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hans Ginneken should have stopped the shot. Matthijs Heinen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gert Strobos having to interfere. In the 86th minute Gert Roodenburg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans Ginneken saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matthijs Heinen in the 87th minute of play forced Varsselder HC's goalkeeper Gert Strobos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 89th minute, Johan Scholte left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Varsselder HC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. Rheden V.V.'s Hans Ginneken played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gert Roodenburg in the 94th minute of play. After having played for 95 minutes, Johan Scholte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Varsselder HC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Johan Scholte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
