The referee showed Dirk Butter the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 6th match minute, HFC Haarlem was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dirk Butter to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Knegsel VV getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Coos Zegwaard hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Franck Eising got free with Alwin Wesseling in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rogier Rodenberg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Alwin Wesseling tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alwin Wesseling made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rogier Rodenberg in the 31st minute of play. If Rogier Rodenberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Berry Mol's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gido Cramer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 81st minute of play. 0-2 became the score in the 82nd minute when Pierre van den Akker elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. 87 minutes into the match, HFC Haarlem's goal looked a bit too open when Pierre van den Akker came free, but Gido Cramer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 90 minutes into the match, HFC Haarlem's Franck Eising sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alwin Wesseling narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Alwin Wesseling took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rogier Rodenberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Hans Sloedingen fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Knegsel VV's protests and gave Hans Sloedingen a yellow card for diving instead. The Knegsel VV supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Knegsel VV would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
