After 6 played minutes Zelen FC got a freekick which was hit by Jeffrey Klijnstra. Frits Sybring made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean-Paul Dijkstra in the 9th minute of play. Theo Meerdink made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Philip Meurs in the 15th minute of play. Zelen FC's Jack Koster got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Jack Koster had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Theo Meerdink showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jack Koster, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. In the 23rd minute, Philip Meurs left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Zelen FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. A collision led to The Northern Lights getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Jean-Paul Dijkstra hit a great ball. Sipke Temen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Frits Sybring tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Zelen FC's Erben Meijer got a free kick in the 37th minute. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Zelen FC's goalkeeper Frits Sybring, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 41st minute Philip Meurs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Theo Meerdink saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Frits Sybring took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ger Ruiter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Frits Sybring stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jean-Paul Dijkstra's shot from short distance in the 45th minute. Sipke Temen struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Frits Sybring didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for The Northern Lights.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jean-Paul Dijkstra made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Coenraad Meindert in the 51st minute of play forced The Northern Lights's goalkeeper Theo Meerdink to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 54th minute, Sipke Temen made a precise shot to the right of Frits Sybring. Zelen FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Sipke Temen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frits Sybring having to interfere. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Zelen FC's goalkeeper Frits Sybring, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Philip Meurs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 71 played minutes The Northern Lights got a freekick which was hit by Laurens Deitmers. In the 75th minute Philip Meurs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Theo Meerdink saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jack Koster struck a weak shot in the 76th minute. Theo Meerdink didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Zelen FC. The supporters of Zelen FC booed when The Northern Lights was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Twan Blanker didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jack Koster sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Jack Kosters short, quick shot in the 81stth minute got Theo Meerdink to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Philip Meurs managed to get in a good position for a shot. Zelen FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Philip Meurs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Theo Meerdink breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Coenraad Meindert might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Theo Meerdink. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Coenraad Meindert ran back to his position shaking his head. If Jean-Paul Dijkstra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Northern Lights's Theo Meerdink proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save The Northern Lights from getting a goal against them. When Zelen FC's Philip Meurs in the 95th minute got a chance for a shot 95th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
