In the 4th minute, Jim Vervoort ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tomas Bult was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. After 6 minutes, Carel Boer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kruisland and the Hengsdijk Excelsior players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 7th match minute, Kruisland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carel Boer to maneuver through the defense. Dolf Visser's late challenge caught a Hengsdijk Excelsior's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dolf Visser helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Hengsdijk Excelsior booed when Kruisland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dolf Visser didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fokke van Zalen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dirk Rijaard in the 9th minute of the match. In the 10th minute, Mickael Lammens hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Demy Blommaart fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomas Bult having to interfere. In the 16th minute, Klaas Klasens got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Tomas Bult showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Demy Blommaart in the 19th minute of the match. Hengsdijk Excelsior's Tomas Bult played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jim Vervoort in the 24th minute of play. Hengsdijk Excelsior's Dirk Rijaard got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 30 minutes into the match, Kruisland's goal looked a bit too open when Dirk Rijaard came free, but Fokke van Zalen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 30 minutes into the game, Mickael Lammens was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hengsdijk Excelsior's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kruisland the free kick. Fokke van Zalen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
After having played for 56 minutes, Dirk Rijaard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hengsdijk Excelsior's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dirk Rijaard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice moves Demy Blommaart could shoot a difficult shot in the 65th minute, which Tomas Bult however easily saved by the left post. When Hengsdijk Excelsior's Dirk Rijaard in the 68th minute got a chance for a shot 68th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Kruisland's goalie prevented a goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Demy Blommaart managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kruisland's supporters rose to their feet, but Demy Blommaart was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tomas Bult breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. During the 70th minute of the match Mickael Lammens completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Mickael Lammens a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 77th minute Dirk Rijaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fokke van Zalen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Kruisland's Carel Boer got a free kick in the 80th minute. In the 81st minute of the match Sjors Blanc shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fokke van Zalen showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Demy Blommaart got free with Tomas Bult in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Klaas Klasens might have been able to make a better finish in the 85th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fokke van Zalen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Klaas Klasens ran back to his position shaking his head. When Roland Reitsema fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kruisland's protests and gave Roland Reitsema a yellow card for diving instead. Mario Lamey hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. Demy Blommaart struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Tomas Bult didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kruisland. Fokke van Zalen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Klaas Klasens, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. If Sjors Lokin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dirk Rijaard took the ball and in the 97 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fokke van Zalen. Fokke van Zalen dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Despite being the better team, Hengsdijk Excelsior failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
