Bergen's Ron Jaliens got a good chance for a goal in the 5th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 6th minute Ron Jaliens shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerben Zoontjens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 8th minute the ball was on its way in behind Bergen's goalkeeper Joop de Jong, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Bergen getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Mike Hekman hit a great ball. Gerben Zoontjens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ron Jaliens in the 11th minute of play. Bergen's Joop de Jong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Giel van Dalen in the 16th minute of play. After having played for 19 minutes, Ron Jaliens managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bergen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ron Jaliens was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tim Saanen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Bergen's zone, Giel van Dalen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joop de Jong came out of the goal and Giel van Dalen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Giel van Dalen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Hogendijk FC booed when Bergen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mike Hekman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joop de Jong showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tim Saanen in the 35th minute of the match. Giel van Dalen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Joop de Jong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giel van Dalen in the 43rd minute of play forced Bergen's goalkeeper Joop de Jong to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lucas Barels kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. In the 47th minute of the match Joep Huizing shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Joop de Jong showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Joop de Jong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tim Saanen, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. If Tim Saanen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 56th minute, Bergen's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Giel van Dalen fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Bergen's Joop de Jong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tim Saanen in the 58th minute of play. Foeke Medgyesi kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Felix van der Leegte took the ball and in the 67 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gerben Zoontjens. Ron Jaliens took the ball and in the 75 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gerben Zoontjens. Felix van der Leegte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gerben Zoontjens having to interfere. After 82 played minutes Hogendijk FC got a freekick which was hit by Tim Saanen. Gerben Zoontjens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix van der Leegte, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ron Jaliens might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gerben Zoontjens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ron Jaliens ran back to his position shaking his head. Giel van Dalen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 89 minutes into the match, Bergen's goal looked a bit too open when Tim Saanen came free, but Joop de Jong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joop de Jong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tim Saanen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
