Match Report

Marsum
Spectators: 35 (Terracing: 27, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0)
It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Henry Scheffer kicked off to start the match. After some careless play in the Marsum HC defense, Chris van Bommel kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gerard van den Akker. The Marsum HC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gerard van den Akker should have stopped the shot. 12 minutes into the game, Iwan Aalst cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Gerard van den Akker was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chris van Bommel in the 17th minute of play forced Marsum HC's goalkeeper Gerard van den Akker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Chris van Bommel came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Bekenes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Chris van Bommel couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Bekenes booed when Marsum HC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pierre van der Leegte didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Chris van Bommel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gerard van den Akker was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chris van Bommel in the 29th minute of play forced Marsum HC's goalkeeper Gerard van den Akker to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Werner Engbers made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Henry Scheffer in the 31st minute of play. Bekenes's Chris van Bommel got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 37 played minutes Gert Jan Robbermond shot from long distance. At first the shot seemed to be simple for Marsum HC's Gerard van den Akker to catch but Gert Jan Robbermond was lucky. It became 0-3 after the goalkeeper had been careless and dropped the ball into goal. Laurens Oosterhof was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 41 minutes into the match. In the 40th minute, one of Bekenes:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Bekenes. 49 minutes into the game, Henry Scheffer recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Werner Engbers. Henry Scheffer showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Werner Engbers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jurre Riemers, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Marsum HC's Henry Scheffer got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Henry Scheffer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Chris van Bommel during the 64th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 64th minute, Chris van Bommel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Werner Engbers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Henry Scheffer in the 66th minute of the match. Henry Scheffer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Werner Engbers having to interfere. 82 minutes into the match, Bekenes's goal looked a bit too open when Jurre Riemers came free, but Werner Engbers reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marsum HC's Jurre Riemers managed to work through Bekenes's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Jurre Riemers dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. In the 97th minute, Chris van Bommel got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 99 minutes, Hendrik Roetering mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Marsum HC and the Bekenes players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Marsum HC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 98th minute. Penalty! The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Bekenes walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
