Fabiën Ritsma came out of the goal and Geale Saelman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Tiel FC getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Fabiën van Someren hit a great ball. 12 minutes into the match, Youri Nedergaard notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Egum Excelsior's Henry Zwarthoet. Henry Zwarthoet was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 15 minutes into the match, Tiel FC's goal looked a bit too open when Pierre Holsmuller came free, but Fabiën Ritsma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 19 minutes into the game, Alex Sneijder was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Egum Excelsior's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tiel FC the free kick. In the 19th match minute, Egum Excelsior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alex Sneijder to maneuver through the defense. Douwe Kok, 20 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Pierre Holsmuller recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 25 minutes, Michael Woudenberg mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tiel FC and the Egum Excelsior players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 26th match minute, Tiel FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Michael Woudenberg to maneuver through the defense. Egum Excelsior's Henry Zwarthoet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Douwe Bakker in the 40th minute of play. Pierre Holsmuller recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Pierre Holsmuller was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Youri Nedergaard in the 58th minute of play forced Egum Excelsior's goalkeeper Henry Zwarthoet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Egum Excelsior's Henry Zwarthoet played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Youri Nedergaard in the 61st minute of play. When Douwe Bakker came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Tiel FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Douwe Bakker couldn't finish the play. Gert Jan Baars's late challenge caught a Tiel FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gert Jan Baars helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Tiel FC booed when Egum Excelsior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. The Tiel FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Douwe Bakker in the 76th minute of play forced Egum Excelsior's goalkeeper Henry Zwarthoet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pierre Holsmuller fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabiën Ritsma having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Geale Saelman managed to get in a good position for a shot. Egum Excelsior's supporters rose to their feet, but Geale Saelman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fabiën Ritsma breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fabiën Ritsma stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Pierre Holsmuller's shot from short distance in the 82nd minute. The audience was convinced that Pierre Holsmuller's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fabiën Ritsma was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. Fabiën Ritsma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pierre Holsmuller in the 86th minute of play. Henry Zwarthoet dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. Gijsbert Melker hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. Tiel FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Egum Excelsior for a fine match.
