Iwan Maurits fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacob Weerd having to interfere. Japke Knol received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Steve Klasens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. David Kroeze struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Steve Klasens didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Minnertsga. After a defensive mix-up in Boukoul's zone, David Kroeze stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Steve Klasens came out of the goal and David Kroeze tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 31 minutes into the match, Boukoul's goal looked a bit too open when Japke Knol came free, but Steve Klasens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Boukoul getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Denny Hoogendorp hit a great ball. Boukoul's Steve Klasens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Japke Knol in the 34th minute of play. Jean-Paul Verheije charged in rather forcefully in the 35th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jean-Paul Verheije the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 38th minute of the match Minnertsga got a corner. Boukoul's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Damien Kinear ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Damien Kinear got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Steve Klasens quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After a defensive mix-up in Boukoul's zone, Japke Knol stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Steve Klasens came out of the goal and Japke Knol tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 44th minute Theo Seedorf shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacob Weerd saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jacob Weerd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean-Paul Verheije in the 47th minute of play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Theo Seedorf was the one to do the kick off. Minnertsga's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. 73 minutes into the game, one of Minnertsga:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty.
