Dimitrie Steffens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gasselte V.V.'s Dimitrie Steffens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jorn Kip in the 5th minute of play. Damien Oss charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Damien Oss the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Damien Oss kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. If Hendrik Riemers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 13 minutes into the match, Gasselte V.V.'s goalkeeper Dimitrie Steffens had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hendrik Riemers. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hendrik Riemers got free with Dimitrie Steffens in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorn Kip in the 17th minute of play forced Gasselte V.V.'s goalkeeper Dimitrie Steffens to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Gasselte V.V.'s Dimitrie Steffens got control of the ball when Hendrik Riemers tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 22nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Gasselte V.V.'s goalkeeper Dimitrie Steffens, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 24 minutes into the match, Ab Rooze had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Timmie Schimmel. Etten's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ab Rooze was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The supporters of Etten booed when Gasselte V.V. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ab Rooze didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gasselte V.V.'s Dimitrie Steffens proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Gasselte V.V. from getting a goal against them. Hendrik Riemers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dimitrie Steffens having to interfere. A collision led to Gasselte V.V. getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Frederik van Gessel hit a great ball. Ab Rooze's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Timmie Schimmel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. In the 44th minute Ab Rooze shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Timmie Schimmel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ab Rooze in the 45th minute of play forced Etten's goalkeeper Timmie Schimmel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Etten's zone, Casper Lans stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Timmie Schimmel came out of the goal and Casper Lans tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jorn Kip to strike the kick off in the second half. 57 minutes into the game, Etten's Hendrik Riemers nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dimitrie Steffens made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Dimitrie Steffens showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jorn Kip, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Gasselte V.V.'s Ab Rooze got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 71 played minutes Gasselte V.V. got a freekick which was hit by Ernest Been. Hendrik Riemers might have been able to make a better finish in the 73rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dimitrie Steffens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hendrik Riemers ran back to his position shaking his head. Dimitrie Steffens didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hendrik Riemers went, in the 77th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Hendrik Riemers kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Timmie Schimmel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ab Rooze in the 82nd minute of the match. Gasselte V.V. were awarded a corner in the 85th minute after Etten's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Karsten Brürs took the corner. Gasselte V.V.'s Karsten Brürs was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Timmie Schimmel in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. If Casper Lans had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mathias van Kampen hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Jorn Kip fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dimitrie Steffens having to interfere. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Etten fans cheered their team off the field, for while Gasselte V.V. had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
