The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Nijrees defense, Tonny Winters kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Henk van Asseldonk. The Nijrees fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Henk van Asseldonk should have stopped the shot. Jurre Baars showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rudi Elshot, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. In the 18th minute Rudi Elshot shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jurre Baars saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, Vroenhout's goal looked a bit too open when Rudi Elshot came free, but Jurre Baars reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Rudi Elshot came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Nijrees fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rudi Elshot couldn't finish the play. Rudi Elshot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vroenhout's Tonny Winters got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Danny van Dam had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rudi Elshot was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute, Danny van Dam got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Danny van Dam sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nijrees's Henk van Asseldonk proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Nijrees from getting a goal against them. After 69 minutes, Henny Wilbrink mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Nijrees and the Vroenhout players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Vroenhout booed when Nijrees was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henny Wilbrink didn't get a good kick on the ball. Stef Heebels recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Rudi Elshot had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 75th minute Danny van Dam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jurre Baars saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Danny van Dam in the 76th minute of play forced Vroenhout's goalkeeper Jurre Baars to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 81 minutes into the match, Vroenhout's goal looked a bit too open when Danny van Dam came free, but Jurre Baars reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rudi Elshot received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Jurre Baars tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 85th minute, Bastiaan Venema hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Rudi Elshot's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jurre Baars was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. Tonny Winters struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Henk van Asseldonk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vroenhout. If Tonny Winters had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
