The tension between the Schonauwen and the Geleen players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 6 played minutes Schonauwen got a freekick which was hit by Max Zwarthoet. The audience thought it was a sure goal in the 8th minute, when Geleen's Eelco Jonge after having done a great run through the defense got himself free with Teo van Zaanen in Schonauwen's goal and fired away a shot, but it missed the goal by a fraction of an inch. Gerrit Degenkamp hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Pierre Rogaars during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 23 played minutes Geleen got a freekick which was hit by Pierre Rogaars. Gerrit Degenkamp who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 26thth minute tested the skills of Teo van Zaanen when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After having played for 29 minutes, Marnix Theunissen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Schonauwen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marnix Theunissen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Geleen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Schonauwen the free kick. 59 minutes into the match, Schonauwen's goal looked a bit too open when Eelco Jonge came free, but Teo van Zaanen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Gerrit Degenkamp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gerrit Degenkamp sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Geleen's Gerrit Degenkamp got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
