The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lucien Bakhuis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Frans Rensenbrink tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 1-0 became the score in the 11th minute when Eric Hohenstein elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Cees Bakhuis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eric Hohenstein, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. After 24 minutes, Yorrick Ridder mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Volendam FC and the Terwisscha players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 24th minute of the game. One of Volendam FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Terwisscha:s goal. The goalkeeper, Cees Bakhuis, was totally fooled by Terwisscha's Gerard Pluym, who 26 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Frans Rensenbrink took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lucien Bakhuis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 33 minutes into the game, Lucien Bakhuis cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Frans Rensenbrink was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 41st minute of the match Terwisscha got a corner. Volendam FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gerard Pluym ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 45th match minute, Terwisscha was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kristof de Haan to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lucien Bakhuis in the 49th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Frans Rensenbrink prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lucien Bakhuis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cees Bakhuis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eric Hohenstein in the 55th minute of play. Marick Egberts fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cees Bakhuis having to interfere. Jan Rein Gerfen charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jan Rein Gerfen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Terwisscha booed when Volendam FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jan Rein Gerfen didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Cobus Haan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lucien Bakhuis in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Wim Theisens managed to get in a good position for a shot. Terwisscha's supporters rose to their feet, but Wim Theisens was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cees Bakhuis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Geert Arend Baatenburg fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Volendam FC's protests and gave Geert Arend Baatenburg a yellow card for diving instead. Geert Arend Baatenburg kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. Eric Hohenstein's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cees Bakhuis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. Cees Bakhuis didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Wim Theisens went, in the 92nd minute, to the upper right corner, 5-1 was the resulting score. Kristof de Haan hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. Cobus Haan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
