The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Eddy Kiewit didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hette Lute went, in the 6th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After having played for 12 minutes, Hette Lute managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Driehuis HC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hette Lute was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Eddy Kiewit showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hette Lute, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Eddy Kiewit didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gert Kiewit went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. In the 20th minute Hette Lute shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eddy Kiewit saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 26 minutes into the match, Vreeswijk HC's goal looked a bit too open when Gertjan Lindenbergh came free, but Eddy Kiewit reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alfred Roelofs made an important save on a dangerous shot by Serge Krijnenburg in the 41st minute. If Gert Kiewit had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Serge Krijnenburg recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Vreeswijk HC booed when Driehuis HC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Steve Holsmuller didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Hendrik Gerrits had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gert Kiewit to strike the kick off in the second half. 55 minutes into the game, Gert Kiewit recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Eddy Kiewit. Gert Kiewit showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-3. In the 60th minute, Vreeswijk HC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Gert Kiewit fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Vreeswijk HC's goalkeeper Eddy Kiewit, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Hette Lute sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 69 minutes into the match, Vreeswijk HC's goal looked a bit too open when Gert Kiewit came free, but Eddy Kiewit reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 70th match minute, Vreeswijk HC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leendert Wijkstra to maneuver through the defense. Hette Lute might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eddy Kiewit. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hette Lute ran back to his position shaking his head. Eddy Kiewit showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gert Kiewit in the 77th minute of the match.
