In the 41st match minute, Venkant was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rein van Rhijn to maneuver through the defense. Coenraad Elshot received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Berend Houwing tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dirk Savenije fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Mulder having to interfere. Sven Ginneken recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Sassenheim's Coenraad Elshot got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sjoerd Kauffeld received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Berend Houwing tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 65th minute, Sjoerd Kauffeld left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sassenheim fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sjoerd Kauffeld in the 69th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Berend Houwing saved Venkant from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Sassenheim's zone, Dirk Savenije stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. David Mulder came out of the goal and Dirk Savenije tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 82ndth minute of the game Coenraad Elshot who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venkant's Berend Houwing was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Riemer Decheiver kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sven Ginneken in the 95th minute of play forced Sassenheim's goalkeeper David Mulder to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Coenraad Elshot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sassenheim fans cheered their team off the field, for while Venkant had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
