René Ridder fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ernst Westra having to interfere. Pim Penders hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. In the 24th minute of the match Ruud Smits shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Hette Wilhelm showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 29th match minute, Ilpendam HC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Peter Nieuwendijk to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Ilpendam HC's zone, René Ridder stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ernst Westra came out of the goal and René Ridder tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Izaak Brunt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Ilpendam HC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gortel the free kick. After 70 played minutes Ilpendam HC got a freekick which was hit by Jan van Zaanen.
