Roland Vondel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Richard van der Schans tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Domenik Dijkman might have been able to make a better finish in the 8th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Richard van der Schans. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Domenik Dijkman ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Veenklooster HC's zone, Foeke Zoethout stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eelco Dijken came out of the goal and Foeke Zoethout tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Richard van der Schans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Domenik Dijkman, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. After 24 played minutes, Veenklooster HC's Allard van Zwam shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Richard van der Schans came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Veenklooster HC reached it. Roland Vondel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Richard van der Schans having to interfere. Richard van der Schans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Domenik Dijkman in the 30th minute of the match. If Domenik Dijkman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Guus Bos made the kick off in the second half. Ternaard Excelsior's Richard van der Schans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Domenik Dijkman in the 51st minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Roland Vondel managed to get in a good position for a shot. Veenklooster HC's supporters rose to their feet, but Roland Vondel was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Richard van der Schans breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 58th minute, Nathan Wessels hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the game, Domenik Dijkman lined in a short shot 0-2 behind a frustrated Richard van der Schans. Domenik Dijkman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Richard van der Schans having to interfere. After 65 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ternaard Excelsior! Richard van der Schans went to the wrong direction when Allard van Zwam was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Eelco Dijken made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guus Bos in the 72nd minute of play. In the 73rd match minute, Ternaard Excelsior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Foeke Zoethout to maneuver through the defense. In the 75th minute, Guus Bos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 78th minute Guus Bos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eelco Dijken saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eelco Dijken made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. In the 96th minute, Roland Vondel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Richard van der Schans was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-3. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Veenklooster HC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
