The supporters of Westerhoven FC booed when Genum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronald Boeringe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Peter van Dinteren showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jurgen van der Bij, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Jelte Spoel hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. The supporters of Genum booed when Westerhoven FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jelte Spoel didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 14 played minutes, Genum's Richard Dalmeijer shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Peter van Dinteren came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Genum reached it. Jurgen van der Bij received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Peter van Dinteren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Maurits de Haan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Klaas Luirink having to interfere. Peter van Dinteren took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jurgen van der Bij, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Westerhoven FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Roland Boezem hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Richard Vennegoor in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Klaas Luirink saved Genum from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jurgen van der Bij in the 26th minute of play forced Westerhoven FC's goalkeeper Peter van Dinteren to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the game, Jelte Spoel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Westerhoven FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Genum the free kick. After having played for 28 minutes, Dolf Baardmam managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Genum's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dolf Baardmam was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Maurits de Haan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

In the 64th minute Maurits de Haan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Klaas Luirink saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Genum's Klaas Luirink played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Richard Vennegoor in the 66th minute of play. After 71 played minutes Genum got a freekick which was hit by Dolf Baardmam. Maurits de Haan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Klaas Luirink having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Richard Vennegoor in the 76th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Klaas Luirink prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Maurits de Haan in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Klaas Luirink saved Genum from getting behind. If Maurits de Haan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Richard Vennegoor in the 81st minute of play forced Genum's goalkeeper Klaas Luirink to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jurgen van der Bij fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter van Dinteren having to interfere. Klaas Luirink didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Richard Vennegoor went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. In the 96th minute Richard Vennegoor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Klaas Luirink saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Westerhoven FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Genum for a fine match.
